VIDEO MAPPING “FOLLOW ME. THE LIFE OF PETER”

A UNIQUE VIDEOMAPPING ON THE FACADE OF ST. PETER’S BASILICA

The video mapping was created to celebrate the first stage of the “Itineraries of Art and Faith” promoted by St. Peter’s Basilica and the Fratelli tutti Foundation.
“Follow me. The life of Peter” is a first-person narration of the life of the Apostle, presented through the projection of a selection of masterpieces housed in the Basilica and the Vatican Museums. A narrative that truly speaks to pilgrims, tourists and art lovers and that sees the perfect combination of the latest technologies for architectural mapping and the deep meaning of sacred art.

PRESS REVIEW

A total of 127 articles in print newspapers and digital magazines – including La Repubblica, Il Messaggero, the Huffington Post and Il Corriere della Sera – mentioned the project. 14 international media articles reported on the projection on St. Peter’s, including the British newspaper ‘The Times’, which described it as a ‘celestial light show’. The interest of Italian television programmes was also very high: the video mapping was reported on 13 news reports, 7 programmes aired on national channels and 7 radio reports, making this project a central focus of national media attention.

THE OPENING CEREMONY

On the evening of Sunday, 2 October 2022, over 80,000 people attended the opening event of “Follow me. The Life of Peter” with guests Andrea Bocelli, Milly Carlucci and Flavio Insinna. The screenings in St. Peter’s Square lasted 15 days and were broadcast in live streaming on digital terrestrial channel 555, for the entire period.

THE HIGHLIGHTS

The project was completed over a two-month period and required the use of 20 projectors placed at about 250 metres from the 17th-century facade of St. Peter’s Basilica covering its over 5,500 sqm surface. Masterpieces by artists including Raffaello, Perugino, Reni and Cavallucci came to life thanks to the three-dimensional rendering of the images projected in 6k.
