AN UNPRECEDENTED EVENT TO CELEBRATE 100 YEARS OF THE AIR FORCE
Mosaico Studio co-ordinated the design and creativity of the Air Force 100th Anniversary inauguration event with an integrated approach. The celebrations took place from 24 to 29 March in Rome, in the splendid setting of the Terrazza del Pincio and Piazza del Popolo visited by over 240,000 people. Six days of celebrations that culminated on 28 March, the day of the Air Force’s ‘birthday’, when the institutional celebration of the 100th anniversary was held on the Pincio Terrace in the presence of the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, and the highest offices of State. The event, broadcast live on RAI Uno television, was followed in the square by over 90,000 people.
AN IMMERSIVE AND WELCOMING VILLAGE IN THE HEART OF ROME
Hundreds of thousands of people of all ages visited the Air Force Experience, the village conceived and designed by Mosaico Studio to narrate the values of the Air Force, inspired by the past, rooted in the present and projected into the future.
The project, developed on over 6,000 square metres, required the employment of about 1,000 people in the set-up phase and a year’s work to bring 5 military aircrafts, 3 geodesic domes with a 360° immersive projection, a stage of over 100 square metres, and 3 flight simulators to Piazza del Popolo.
Also present were stands dedicated to the State Mint and the Italian Post Office, which dedicated two new coins and eight commemorative stamps respectively for the occasion. Radio RTL102.5 followed the event live.

THE 360° PROJECTION
In the last stage of the experiential journey, visitors were immersed in the ‘future’ of aeronautics: a dome with a 360° projection narrated the challenges and projects of the Air Force through an emotional film. The new defence scenarios, aerospace, technological development that shortens distances, cybersecurity, environmental sustainability and the evolution of meteorology were told in a film made with spherical 3D rendering for an immersive effect that put the spectators in the centre of the scene.
